Your point is right, that smooth-ness is EXTREMELY important in flourish.
However, the point that audience think different kinds of flourish are just the same thing is my experience.
I am not trying to make a bad name of flourish in here at all; I ALSO do flourishes.
If you are talking about a flourish performance, then of course you are right --- They care about the style and the smoothness. A lot of people do not like Brian T's style anymore because too fast plus not beautiful.
IF you are talking about doing flourish DURING the magic performance, seroiusly ----- different flourishes are ALMOST the same thing for them. They know that you are good at manipulate cards. That's all.
A few famous magicians also do flourishes in their performance~
O well, it is their choice; with OR without flourish in MAGIC performance doesn't affect the effect. Your goal is trying to perform miracles, not showing off how good you are at cards.
Did you see David Copperfield do flourishes in his performance? For me, I didn't see it.
All I said about flourish is based on the point of view from magic performance. I dont know whether ppp636 is seeing it from which side, but I sense that he asked it from being a magician's point of view instead of a flourisher.
If he claims himself that " OK, I am only care about doing flourishes~ Since some audience said Lu Chen's speed has some problem, and so I just wanna ask whether I should do a fast sybil or not", Then I have nothing to say ---- flourishing is all about style. =] Unfortunately, I do not think that he asked from a flourisher's point of view though.
